Swim & Lifesaving Instructor

At Swim Safe 306, we offer Lifesaving Society's Swim for Life, Swim Patrol and Bronze Awards programs. The Lifesaving Society's Swim Instructor course prepares the instructor to teach and evaluate the swimming strokes and related skills found in the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program.

The Lifesaving Instructor course prepares instructors to teach the Lifesaving Society's:

  • Canadian Swim Patrol Program

  • Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross

  • Lifesaving Fitness, Distinction

  • Basic and Emergency First Aid, and CPR-A, CPR-B and CPR-C​

Candidates acquire proven teaching methods, planning skills, and a variety of stroke development drills and correction techniques.

Prerequisites: 15 years of age by the end of the course; Bronze Cross certification (need not be current).

Course Delivery: This course will be offered as a blended-learning course with 16 hours of online, synchronous instruction via videoconferencing followed by 28 hours of in-person, in-water instruction. The in-person sessions will be ran in the lake, at the public beach within Wakaw Lake Regional Park.

Provided materials (included in the cost of registration): Instructor Manual, Swim for Life Award Guide, Teaching Swim for Life Manual, Swim Patrol Award Guide, Bronze Medals Award Guide, and Leadership Binder.

Required materials for online sessions, not provided: Computer or tablet, with video capabilities, and a stable internet connection. 

Lifesaving Society

Swim & Lifesaving Instructor (44 hours)

Age: 15 + years old; Bronze Cross certification (need not be current). 

100% attendance and participation required in all sessions. 

 

Online, synchronous instruction (16 hours): June 9, 16, 23, July 7 @ 4:30-8:30pm 

In-person, in-water instruction (28 hours): July 1-4 @ 9:00-5:30pm

$325

Price includes instructor manuals, and a shared campsite. Campsite includes electricity and a fire pit.

Candidates must bring their own camping gear (tent, sleeping equipment, etc.), food and cooking equipment, along with swimming gear. A gear list will be sent out prior to the course start date.
