Swimmers should have previously passed Swimmer 3 (Red Cross SK 5/6) or equivalent ability: can front crawl and back crawl for 15 metres each, whip kick for 10 metres, tread water for 30 seconds, and as a sequence: jump into deep water, tread for 30 seconds and then swim 25 metres. These intermediate swimmers will swim 5 m underwater and lengths of front, back crawl, whip kick, and breaststroke arms with breathing. Their new bag of tricks includes the completion of the Canadian Swim to Survive® Standard. They'll cap it all off with front crawl sprints over 25 m and 4 x 25 m front or back crawl interval training. Upon passing this level: swimmers will be able to front crawl and back crawl for 25 metres each, tread water for 1 minute, complete a 5 metre underwater swim, and complete the Swim to Survive Standard: roll into deep water, tread for 1 minute and then swim 50 metres.
