Swimmer 5

  • Starts Jul. 25
  • 87 Canadian dollars
  • Wakaw Lake Regional Park

Service Description

Swimmers should have previously passed Swimmer 4 (Red Cross SK 6/7) or equivalent ability: can front crawl and back crawl for 25 metres each, tread water for 1 minute, complete a 5 metre underwater swim, and complete the Swim to Survive Standard: roll into deep water, tread for 1 minute and then swim 50 metres. These swimmers will master cannonball entries, eggbeater kicks, and in-water backward somersaults. They'll refine their front and back crawl over 50 m swims of each, and breaststroke over 25 m. Then they'll pick up the pace in 25 m sprints and two interval training bouts: 4 x 50 m front or back crawl; and 4 x 15 m breaststroke. They'll easily swim lengths of front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke. Upon passing this level: swimmers will be able to front crawl and back crawl for 50 metres each, breaststroke for 25 metres, tread water for 2 minutes, and develop their Swim to Survive skills to: roll into deep water, tread for 90 minutes, and them swim 75 metres.
