Service Description

The Lifesaving Society Bronze Medal Awards provide a fun and challenging progression of lifesaving training. Bronze Star is ideal for those swimmers who have passed the Swim Patrol levels and are looking to further their swimming and lifesaving skills but are too young to register in Bronze Medallion (ie age 11-12). Bronze Star is excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion and provides a fun introduction to lifesaving sport. In Bronze Star: Candidates will learn about the Lifesaving Society’s training program opportunities, entries for various environments, develop victim recognition of a weak and non-swimmer and demonstrate single-rescuer drowning resuscitation (CPR) on a manikin. They will demonstrate sculling both in place and moving, throwing and reaching rescues, self-rescues in clothing from ice, swamped or capsized boat and preform a huddle with others. Candidates will continue to develop their swimming proficiency with 25 m swims of each: front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, head-up front crawl, head-up breaststroke, whip kick, eggbeater and scissor kick, and complete a 400 m fitness challenge, 50 m obstacle swim and 50 m rescue drill. Upon passing Bronze Star: Candidates will receive a certification directly from the Lifesaving Society. Bronze Star is a prerequisite for Bronze Medallion, for those who do not meet the 13yo age requirement of Bronze Medallion.
