Swim Transition

On January 11, 2022 the Red Cross announced that they will be winding down their involvement with all swim and lifeguard programming, asking their training partners to transition to Lifesaving Society programs for learn-to-swim lessons as well as lifesaving and lifeguard training. They are requiring that organizations cease to offer Red Cross Swim program, including preschool and kids swimming lessons, by the end of 2022. This transition may feel overwhelming, so we want to extend our services to all Saskatchewan facilities to ensure that all instructors and lifeguards around the province receive quality training.

Swim Safe 306 is a Lifesaving Society affiliate and is available for hire, to help with your transition from Red Cross to Lifesaving Society programs. The Lifesaving Society has created an easy transition path for both instructors and lifeguards. Details on these transition paths can be found at lifesavingsociety.sk.ca. Key points:

  • The Lifesaving Society is encouraging seasonal facilities to transition prior to the summer season.

  • Lifeguards: Those who hold a Red Cross Lifeguard certification are to attend a National Lifeguard recertification course to obtain the National Lifeguard certification.

  • Instructors: Those who hold a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification are to attend an in-person transfer course or take an online clinic directly through the Lifesaving Society to obtain their Swim Instructor certification.

  • All participants will be required to purchase their own manuals. Certification fees will be waived for all people transferring into the Lifesaving Society Programs.

We have trainers who know the Red Cross programs, have worked with both Red Cross and Lifesaving Society programs for over 10 years, and can help your staff make the smoothest transition to these new programs. Our trainers are available to come to your facility to train your staff to become either or multiple, based on their current Red Cross certifications:

  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor – to teach learn-to-swim lessons to all ages

  • Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructors – to teach lifesaving courses including Bronze Star, Medallion and Cross

  • Lifesaving Society National Lifeguards
